Some churches have run Alpha once and ask, "We already did Alpha. Why should we run it again?" This is a valid question. Alpha is unlike other church programs and curriculum. It's designed for those who don't identify as Christian but it becomes a pipeline for discipleship and even leadership! Here are a few reasons why it's most effective to run Alpha more than once.

1 - Alpha helps people explore and discover a relationship with Jesus.

Alpha is most effective when run continuously throughout the year so that Alpha guests can invite their friends and family to an upcoming Alpha. When guests have life-changing experiences, they want others to join an Alpha too!

2 - Alpha creates a safe space where people are excited to bring their friends.

There aren't many places for people to discuss issues about faith in a non-judgmental environment. Alpha courses are hosted by trained facilitators who ensure a safe space for conversations about life's big questions. Alphas are run in all sorts of settings (homes, coffee shops, pubs, gyms, etc) which makes it easier to invite their friends.

"Over 70% of respondents have noticed a rise in spiritual curiosity among lapsed or non-Christians in their communities over the past three years. Additionally, nearly 60% perceive a greater openness to the Christian message... These perceived trends reflect a broader social context where spiritual exploration is becoming more prevalent, creating fertile ground for sharing the love of Jesus."

3 - Alpha develops disciples and leaders.

In Canada, 55-65% of Alpha hosts & helpers said they came to faith on a previous Alpha! Often, Alpha guests want to serve as helpers on the next Alpha, and over time, they become empowered and eager to serve as table leaders (hosts). This discipleship model creates unity among different generations as they work together as a team, discover their spiritual gifts, and find a place to belong.

4 - Alpha rejuvenates church culture to become inviting communities.

Alpha helps churches to create a culture of invitation, to invite people outside the church, for strangers to become friends. Facilitators are equipped and trained on how to host conversations about faith, life, Jesus. Churches are empowered for mission as they see God transforming lives.

5 - Alpha sparks church growth!

Many churches running Alpha have reported an increase in their congregation attendance. Churches that run Alpha have seen the ripple effect of evangelism, discipleship, and leadership development. Many Alpha leaders serve in other leadership roles in their local church and community. More leaders help churches become sustainable and holistically healthy.

Each week, many people ask us where they can join an Alpha.

Register your next Alpha early so guests can plan ahead and join a course that fits their schedule.

Schedule two or three Alpha start dates each year (e.g. Jan-March, June-Aug, Sept to Dec). Register your course in MyAlpha and check the box to make it public on the tryalpha.ca website.
