How can I run Alpha in a prison?

jail, halfway house, remand, correctional, institution, detention

Thanks for asking about Alpha for Prisons!

1 - Please check with the Prison Chaplain to see if Alpha is already running in the facility. Chaplains oversee the faith-based programs and can help volunteers with the necessary application forms and scheduling.

2 - The Alpha videos and training are the same in any context (church, home, prisons, etc). However, there are additional resources to run Alpha in correctional facilities. The resources are free online and downloadable for all registered courses. Download the free Alpha for Prisons Mini Guide for leaders.

3 - Additional training is required to be a volunteer within the Correctional Service of Canada. Please visit the CSC website for more information. Info here.

4 - We understand that correctional facilities are unique and require special approval to bring in the Alpha videos. We recommend that you register your Alpha, download the videos, and burn them onto a blank DVD or USB drive. Please give it to the Prison Chaplain or Staff for review and approval.

5 - If you have any questions, please contact our Alpha for Prisons Director, Sean Wilkinson, at prisons@alphacanada.org. We would be happy to assist you!

For more information, please visit the Alpha for Prisons webpage.
